Firefighters attending a Grass Fire in Ringwood yesterday were forced to use an unsafe and hazardous Fire Truck, presenting significant risk to their wellbeing.
The 22-year-old Truck has a faulty Pump Governor causing it to rev upwards of 1500kpa.
The Governor function is there to protect firefighters from unsafe pressure spikes, which could cause a Firefighter to be blown off their feet.
This 22 year old Truck should have been taken off the road 7 years ago. However, Victoria has a Fire rescue Fleet that is unsafe, out of date and not fit for purpose.
Firefighters should have confidence that equipment they are using will protect them and the community when it matters most.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of resources and planning this is not the case.
Jacinta Allan cannot remain silent on this issue any longer, what will it take for this Government to act on Victoria’s Fire Truck Crisis?
