20 year old truck falls apart!

Overnight, firefighters from Fire Station 42 Newport were left without a fire truck when the exhaust rusted through and broke off on their way back to station — leaving them billowing black smoke across the road and creating a traffic hazard.

This truck is 20 years old — it should have been retired 5 years ago. Today it was the exhaust, tomorrow it could be the firefighting pump, steering, or worse. And to make matters worse, there are no spare fire trucks left to replace it because so many have broken down across the state.

Every outdated truck is a ticking time bomb, putting firefighters and the community in danger.

This is not the fire service Victorians deserve. The responsibility lies squarely with Emergency Services Minister Vicki Ward, who must act now to fix this fire truck crisis before we are mourning a firefighter.
