Firefighters from Corio got a rude shock this week when their own fire truck began filling with smoke during routine checks.
They could only isolate the truck and call for help as smoke poured into the cabin from behind the dashboard. The cause? A major fault in the electrical switches and wiring that control critical systems like the firefighting pump.
Fire service mechanics declared the truck unsafe to use, and took it offline indefinitely for major repairs.
This truck was already a spare which is due for replacement in three months — but thanks to the Allan Government’s $114 million cut to FRV’s budget, firefighters are being forced to rely on outdated and unsafe trucks to protect Victorians.
That’s $114 million — enough to replace around 100 fire trucks — stripped from public and firefighter safety.
Victorians deserve better. Firefighters deserve safe equipment.
The Allan Government slashes, Victoria burns.
