This photo tell a story firefighters across Victoria know all too well. Station 87, Dandenong, has an engine bay with no truck in it.
Why? Because there are no spare trucks left in the state. Station 93, Pakenham, has had their only truck breakdown — so firefighters were forced to take one of Dandenongs trucks just to keep another station operational. That leaves Dandenong running at 50% of its normal capacity.
One mechanical failure away from having no fire truck at all. This is what happens when years of underinvestment, poor planning and ignored warnings collide on the frontline.
And it’s Victorians who pay the price.
No spare trucks.
No redundancy.
No safety net.
Firefighters are raising the alarm because they’re the ones left to explain to communities why help might be delayed when it matters most.
When the Allan government slashes, Victoria burns.
