Derrimut Fire Crisis: One Truck Left to Protect the Community

Fire Station 59 Derrimut, one of Victoria’s busiest fire stations, has responded to some of the state’s largest factory fires—including in July 2024 and October 2023. Yet, despite the high risk and demand, their fire trucks are failing.

Yesterday, a fire truck at Footscray broke down. With no spare trucks available, Derrimut was forced to send one of theirs to cover Footscray, leaving their own community with just one truck to respond to emergencies.

FRV’s fleet is under massive strain, and mechanics are overwhelmed trying to keep failing trucks on the road. This is a failure by FRV Commissioner Freeman to protect Victorians, and firefighters no longer have confidence in his ability to do so.

Victorians deserve a fire service they can rely on. This Fire Crisis must be fixed now!
