Fire Crisis: Glen Waverley Fire Truck Exhausted and Off the Road

Tonight, Glen Waverley’s Pumper 31 has been taken off the road because it is completely unroadworthy. The exhaust system is rusted and blowing toxic fumes into the cab, the foam suppression system is non-functional, the brake pad warning lights are on, and there are major air leaks throughout the truck.

This fire truck is 17 years old, two years past its retirement date under FRV’s own service life policy of 15 years.

Despite this, Commissioner Freeman continues to insist the fleet is fine and that maintenance programs are strong.

The truth is that FRV’s ageing fleet is falling apart, putting both firefighters and the community in danger. Victorians deserve better. It is time to address this Fire Crisis before it is too late.
