Firefighters were left scrambling yesterday at the FRV Training Academy when a Ladder Platform failed mid-exercise during the Fire Ops 101 program.
Fire Ops 101 is meant to give stakeholders and decision-makers a glimpse into the realities of firefighting. Instead, they got the full, unfiltered experience of what firefighters are dealing with every day — fire trucks that are failing under pressure.
This Ladder Platform is only 7 years old, but with spare appliances well past their service life and constantly breaking down, FRV doesn’t have the capacity to take newer trucks offline for proper repairs and maintenance.
This is the result: firefighters left stranded and unable to perform their role.
Please listen to Pete’s message about what happened — and why the Allan Government and Minister Vicki Ward can no longer ignore firefighters before something tragic happens.
This year alone, the Allan Government has slashed $114 million from Fire Rescue Victoria’s budget — money that should be keeping Victorians safe by replacing out-of-date, unreliable fire trucks.
