Firefighters assessed by Ambulance Victoria as 16 year old Truck fails

Firefighters stationed at FRV Headquarters were assessed by Ambulance Victoria overnight as a 16-year-old Batteries faulted.

Firefighters notice a strong odour coming for the appliance batteries when inspecting the 16 year old Truck and got positive readings for Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Cyanide.

The Control Unit was taken out of commission and there were no Control Units available whilst the appliance was ventilated, the faulty battery located and removed.

The Unit was placed back in Commission, however it is operating at reduced capacity until the battery can be replaced.

This incident is the latest example of Fire Rescue Victoria’s Fleet being out of date, not fit for purpose and a hazard to the community and Firefighters.

Victoria is experiencing a Fire Truck Crisis, inaction by Minister Symes and Commissioner Freeman is leaving all Victorians and Firefighters at dire risk of injury and loss of life.
