Over a week ago, the Ladder Platform fire truck from Fire Station 01 Eastern Hill (Melb CBD) broke down during a training drill. What followed was a delay for parts, and now, over a week later, the truck is still out of action, leaving Melbourne vulnerable.
Despite claims from Fire Rescue Victoria Commissioner Freeman that there is a “spare appliance pool” to ensure protection, the reality is far different. With an outdated and failing fleet, even minor breakdowns lead to trucks being offline with no backups in place.
Firefighters are rapidly losing confidence in Commissioner Freeman’s ability to lead and Victorians should be concerned about his commitment to ensuring Firefighter safety and the protection of Victorians.
Our community deserves better.
