Right now, there is a fully engulfed shop fire in Melton South.
With fire trucks already off the road, resources are being stretched so thin that trucks from South Melbourne and the CBD are being dragged out to Caroline Springs and Sunbury. In peak hour traffic, that’s over an hour away.
Normally, local trucks would arrive in 15 minutes to maintain coverage. Instead, trucks are being shuffled across the city just to keep FRV’s failing system propped up.
This isn’t theory. This is happening — today. And it’s only from one shop fire. If a second fire started, or worse, a large-scale incident, FRV could not fully commit to protecting Victorians.
Firefighters have already spoken out in the Breaking Point documentary about this crisis.
Yet Emergency Services Minister Vicki Ward MP continues to ignore the warnings.
How long until we see a tragic loss of life before action is taken?
