Preston Firefighters Left Stranded by Allan Government Neglect
Firefighters from Fire Station 12 Preston were responding to a second alarm structure fire — a two-storey workshop fully involved in flames — when their outdated fire truck, which should have been replaced more than five years ago, lost power and started billowing smoke from the exhaust.
Despite the danger, crews limped the ageing truck to the fire to protect their community the best they could.
This was already a backup fire truck – their usual out of date fire truck has been off the road for nearly six months after the firefighting pump blew up. It’s rumoured mechanics can’t get it back in service because they’re overwhelmed with constant equipment failures across the state.
This is what happens when the Allan Government cuts $114 million from Fire Rescue Victoria’s budget — while charging Victorians twice as much through a new emergency services tax.
Let’s be clear:
The Allan Government is treating the fire services like an ATM, clawing back over $2 billion to fund state debt — not to protect Victorians.
