Dear Mr Lambert
When someone we love calls 000, we expect firefighters to have the people, equipment and support they need to help. That also relies on the corporate and technical staff who keep the fleet, equipment, technology and fire service operating.
Supporting the people who keep our fire service running means supporting the community they serve.
FRV’s 2022 staffing plan identified 583 additional positions over five years to address service-delivery gaps and improve safety. Our growing communities need adequate staffing—not further delay.
Yet submissions filed in the Minister's name challenge minimum-staffing and consultation protections, including provisions covering protective clothing, appliances and equipment.
As my local member, please ask the Emergency Services Minister and Premier to support adequate staffing, workplace protections and fair pay.
These are not simply workplace conditions. Changes to staffing, equipment and safety protections can directly affect firefighters’ ability to respond safely and effectively.
Rapid population growth, AI data centres, lithium battery fires, fire bombing's and increasing medical emergencies demand a properly resourced fire service.
Firefighters and corporate staff have also gone nearly six years without a general pay rise. How does continuing to leave these workers waiting help retain experienced staff or attract the next generation?
Our families depend on a strong fire service. Your support is critical to firefighters and the entire community. The importance of your acknowledgement and action on this request cannot be understated.
