While conducting routine training, firefighters from Ascot Vale narrowly avoided disaster when Pumper 50s PTO shaft blew off mid-operation. This failure could have seriously injured firefighters or any member of the public nearby.
This is not an isolated issue it’s yet another reminder of how old, unreliable and unsafe much of the FRV fleet has become. Our members are expected to respond to emergencies in trucks that should have been retired years ago.
Firefighters shouldn’t have to risk their lives because of neglected maintenance and outdated equipment. The community deserves better, and so do those who protect it.
