Safety Hazards on Old Faulty Trucks as Temperatures Rise

As temperatures soar across Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria’s fleet is showing serious faults. Overheating trucks and ineffective air conditioning are becoming a growing concern at multiple locations, creating major safety risks for our firefighters and the community.

Firefighters can’t control the extreme heat or the heavy protective gear they must wear, but they should be able to rely on fire trucks with functioning air conditioning. During emergencies, every second counts, and a truck that can cool down crew members is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.

With the ongoing impacts of climate change, like the fires we see in Los Angeles, our outdated firefighting fleet is not fit for purpose. We need to invest now in reliable trucks to keep our firefighters safe and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

The Allan Government cannot afford to wait. We need a fleet that’s up to the challenge and prepared for extreme conditions.
