Oakleigh Fire Truck Breaks Down Before Leaving the Station – Fire Crisis Worsens Daily

This morning, firefighters at Fire Station 25, Oakleigh tried to respond to an emergency, but their fire truck wouldn’t start. Another truck had to be sent from further away, delaying the response.

Mechanics arrived quickly and fitted a starter motor from the workshop’s limited spare parts supply, but it was also broken. When a firefighter was sent to pick up another, they were told none were left in stock.

This truck is 22 years old—7 years past FRV’s own service life policy. The so-called “pool of spare appliances” is drying up, and now the spare parts are too. These aging fire trucks are unreliable, and no amount of government spin can change that.

Firefighters can’t risk their lives or the community’s lives with failing trucks. The government must act now.
