Fire truck brake failure at Truganina grass fire

This afternoon, firefighters from Fire Station 59 Derrimut were responding to a fast-moving grass fire in Truganina when their fire truck suffered a brake system failure.

While actively firefighting, a warning appeared on the dashboard. The crew rushed to move the truck off the grass and onto the road—only for the brakes to seize completely due to loss of air pressure.

If this failure had occurred sooner, the truck could have been stranded in the grass, putting both the crew and the fire truck at serious risk.

Premier Jacinta Allan and Treasurer Jaclyn Symes are charging Victorians twice as much emergency services tax, while fire service funding is being cut.

This is yet another example of a fire service critically failing — not the fire service Victorians are paying for and not one that keeps firefighters or communities safe.
