Firefighters at Fire Station 87 Dandenong have discovered their so called “replacement” specialist ladder platform truck has smoking brakes, meaning it’s now off the road with no spare trucks to replace it.
Under FRV and international standards, this truck should have been retired 13 years ago. Instead, mechanics are forced to continually chase faults and patch it up, waiting for the next part to fail.
This is the reality firefighters are dealing with — ageing, unreliable equipment being kept on the road while Victorians rely on us during emergencies.
Victorians deserve a properly funded fire service with safe, modern equipment — not trucks that should have been retired over a decade ago.
