Firefighters in Ballarat have been forced to take Ladder Platform 67 out of service after discovering dangerous pressure loss in its front stabilisers—causing the truck to tilt while in operation.
Earlier this week, the truck was already limited to “water tower” use only after its backup generator failed and was removed, meaning it could not be used for rescues at heights of up to 37 metres—in a desperate bid by firefighters to keep some capacity. Now, with its stabilisers failing, it’s completely out of action.
At 21 years old, this truck is 6 years past Fire Rescue Victoria’s service life policy. Despite constant maintenance, it’s a ticking time bomb—putting both firefighters and the community at risk.
Firefighters have had enough. They voted unanimously to ban the use of faulty and dangerous fire trucks. This is just another example of the Fire Crisis that needs urgent action.
The Allan Government can’t keep ignoring this issue—firefighters and the community deserve better.
