Today, crews from Fire Station 42 Newport are battling 42°C heat in Altona in a 25-year-old firetruck, 10 years past FRV’s service life policy. Firefighters rely on these trucks not just to fight fires but for critical rehabilitation and cooling down. Instead, they’re forced to keep the windows open due to a lack of air conditioning and the heating stuck on, leaving them covered in dust and ash as they try to recover between efforts.
Meanwhile, Victorians are paying a doubling fire service levy, yet our fire service is stretched beyond capacity. This underfunding puts firefighters and communities at risk.
It’s time to demand better. Our firefighters deserve safe, reliable, and modern equipment to do their job and stay safe
